2020 U.S. TIP Report

 

2020 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report is here. Thailand remains listed as Tier 2. East Asia & Pacific region saw a 51% increase in prosecutions, 186% increase in convictions, and 161% increase in victims identified compared to last year's report. Kudos to all our partners throughout the region fighting this battle together.

We found the following articles within the report to be particularly interesting:

  • Trauma Bonding in Human Trafficking, pp. 20-21. This article speaks to the way a trafficker may use trauma as a way to bond with a victim, commonly known as Stockholm Syndrome. “Although definitions vary, the most common meaning of trauma bonding is when a trafficker uses rewards and punishments within cycles of abuse to foster a powerful emotional connection with the victim (p. 20).” Read the full article here.

  • Faith-Based Efforts to Combat Human Trafficking, pp. 24-25. Faith-based organizations of the world’s major religions are able to fight human trafficking in ways that government organizations cannot. They bring positive aspects to the work, such as having connections across cities and countries, their ability to understand local threats and adapting to the culture in which they serve. “They can issue calls to action that cut across borders, cultures, ethnicities, and economic classes (p. 24).” Read more here.
